Registration for a $500 scholarship for TCC students for the upcoming semesters is currently under way.

The Fort Worth Chapter of the Texas Association of Black Personnel in Higher Education (FWC/TABPHE) will award a $500 scholarship in two portions of $250 to TCC students to assist with tuition for fall and spring 2001-2002 semesters.

According to Nathalie Riley, administrative office assistant at the May Owen Center, FWB/TABPHE is a national organization with chapters in Fort Worth that consist of many TCC faculty members.

Applications can be obtained in each TCC financial aid office. The deadline for completed applications is Tuesday, March 20.

An applicant must be a student who has completed at least 12 semester hours at TCC and plans to enroll at TCC in the fall and spring semesters.

Applicants must possess a grade point average of 2.5 or higher and have a student aid report on file in the campus financial aid office or provide proof of completion of a Federal Application for Student Aid from the spring 2001 semester.

Applicants must submit official transcripts for all colleges and universities attended, including TCC. Also, applicants must provide official TASP, Quick TASP scores or TASP alternative test scores such as MAPS, ASSET or ACCUPLACER.

“Applicants need not worry if they haven’t passed all portions of the test,” Riley said.

“They are still eligible as long as they submit proof of taking the test along with other requirements,” Riley said.

In addition, students must provide three letters of recommendation.

Letters should come from either a FWC/TABPHE member, TCC faculty, administrator or support staff; minister or spiritual leader; current or former employer; Tarrant County civic, volunteer or business leader or former teacher, principal or counselor.

According to the application, the FWC/ TABPHE Scholarship Committee will review applications and select four finalists.

Members of the Scholarship Committee will interview all finalists and select two winners and two runners-up by Monday, April 9.
