Faculty to unveil journal
The NE English department will hold a reception honoring students who contributed to the 2001 literary journal Under the Clock Tower Friday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. in CAB 112.
Publication of the journal and the reception honoring the entries is an annual event. Writers will read their works to the audience of approximately 100 guests including friends, family and English department members.
The new edition of the journal will be presented for the first time, and time will be allotted that evening for autographs.
Under the Clock Tower, edited by Cuyler Etheredge, assistant professor of English, consists of essays, poetry and short fiction by NE students.
Usually we have a writing competition in the spring with money prizes. This year we are adding one in the fall. We really want to encourage students to submit their work, she said.
Students submit fiction, poetry and/or creative essays, which are judged by five members of the English department.
We invite anyone who enjoys literary events to attend and support our student writers, she said.
Audience members can purchase copies of the journal for $4 that evening. Starting Monday, Oct. 8, anyone can purchase copies from the English department in FAC 3336.
