This little piggy said, Fine Swine
All pigs are not equal; some in SE Campus new art exhibit have diseases.
Fine Swine in the Art Corridor II features sculptures by Chuck Wells.
After viewing his sons participation in the play The Three Little Pigs, Wells decided to explore pigs through art.
Chuck (Wells) researched hog disorders and nutrition. Many of the images of the clinically diseased and deformed animals resembled his sculptures, John Frost, exhibit curator, said.
Wells employs materials such as burlap, wire, plaster, natural pigments and bronze in his sculptures, Frost said.
Each layer simultaneously reveals and discloses information of the layer underneath
(Wells) also edits formal information such as deleting eyes, ears and legs or emphasizing other physical forms to convey a certain mood or humor, he said.
Wells is an assistant professor of sculpture and metal-smithing at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls.
Fine Swine continues through Friday, March 22, in Art Corridor II. An artist reception and talk with Wells is Thursday, March 7, at 1 p.m. in the Art Corridor II.
In Art Corridor I, a new ceramics exhibit is installed: Recent Work by Lisa Orr. The ceramic plates and vases incorporate vivid colors and undulated surfaces.
Both corridors are open during school hours, Monday-Thursday 8 a.m.-10 p.m., Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
