Teens rebel against parents in Casa production Footloose

Casa Mañaña presents Footloose at Bass Performance Hall through Sunday, Jan. 28.

Footloose has been described as a family musical with exhilarating song and dance.

Teenage rebellion and the struggle to overcome well-intentioned, yet misguided oppression make up the basis for the plot.

The theme centers on coming to terms with loss—a boy’s loss of his father and a man’s loss of his son.

Footloose played an out-of-town tryout at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

The performance received notable responses and opened on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in October 1998.

Kenny Loggins, Sammy Hagar, Eric Carmen and Jim Steinman collaborated on the musical score for this production.

Original songs have been composed for the stage production by Dean Pitchford, Academy, Golden Globe and Grammy award winner, and Tom Snow, Academy and Grammy award winner.

Musical highlights include such songs as Holding Out for a Hero, Let’s Hear it for the Boy, Almost Paradise and Footloose.

The original production was made into a film starring Kevin Bacon.

Casa Mañaña strives to create, nurture and advance live professional theatre with its production of Footloose at two distinct performance venues: Casa Mañaña and Bass Performance Hall.
