Life of choreographer to play for Casa
Fosse, the Tony Award winning musical, is coming to Fort Worth.
Casa Manana will present the show at the Bass Performance Hall April 10-15.
Fosse is a highlight of the work of legendary choreographer Bob Fosse, the first director in history to win the Oscar, Tony and Emmy Awards in a single year.
This feat was accomplished with the film version of Cabaret, the Broadway musical Pippin and the television special Liza with a Z.
He won a total of nine Tony awards in his lifetime for musicals, including The Pajama Game, Redhead, Little Me, Sweet Charity, Chicago, Dancin, Damn Yankees, Big Deal, New Girl In Town and How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.
Fosse also directed the films Sweet Charity, Lenny, All That Jazz and Star 80 and did the choreography for many other films.
The musical Fosse includes rarely seen dance and musical numbers from his earliest works and numbers from film and television that have never been seen on stage.
The show is directed by Richard Maktby Jr. and Ann Reinking.
Reinking choreographed the dance numbers, which were recreated by Chet Walker. Gwen Verdon, the late wife of Fosse, was an artistic advisor to the project.
The show will include such numbers as Steam Heat, Bye Bye Blackbird, Rich Mans Frug, Dancin Man and Sing, Sing, Sing.
The touring company of Fosse began performances in September 1999 at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts/Oriental Theatre in Chicago.
Fosse will run Tuesday through Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
