Local newscaster to address SE

Prominent television journalist, Gloria Campos, will join SE Campus Tuesday, Sept. 18, to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month.

An evening co-anchor with News 8, she will speak about past obstacles the Hispanic community has overcome, her own individual triumphs and the future of the burgeoning Hispanic population throughout the United States.

Her presentation will begin at 1 p.m. in the Roberson Theatre.

Campos is active within the metroplex with numerous Hispanic organizations. She is a participating member of the Network of Hispanic Communicators and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.

Texas Hispanic magazine credited her as one of the state’s most influential Hispanic Texans in 1996.

Campos also volunteers for various non-profit groups that she says are “too numerous to list.” Her interests lie in women and family issues and education, and she says that visiting schools is one of her favorite activities.

“Most folks don’t know I am a proud honorary lifetime member of the Texas PTA. It’s an honor I received for volunteering to speak at career days, Hispanic Heritage events, mentoring and reading,” her web site says.

For more information on the celebration contact SE student activities at 817-515-3595.
