Generations X, Y, boomer appreciated
by Chris Taylor, editor-in-chief
Besides death and taxes, there is one more constant in the universethe fact that any generation will dislike the one that follows it.
I have found myself becoming frequently disappointed with the actions of Generation Y or as I like to call them Generation Y work?
This current generation seems obsessed with making millions and becoming famous, but doesnt believe in starting at the bottom to achieve that goal.
Of course, Im not real thrilled with the Baby Boomers, WWII generation or Generation X either.
The people that were around during WWII are often referred to as the Greatest Generation. But why do they get that distinction?
They werent the greatest generation until WWII. Before that, they were suffering through the depression and dealing with segregation.
Yes, they answered the call of WWII and made the necessary sacrifices, but other generations have risen to their respective causes.
The Baby Boomers helped stop what they thought was an illegal war, fought for the equality of women and minorities and fought against censorship. What people forget is that the Baby Boomers fight was against the Greatest Generations old-fashioned and antiquated values and prejudices.
Baby Boomers arent without fault either. They have been the biggest proponents of censorship and stripping people of their basic rights since their parents tried the same nonsense on them.
Even Generation X has been portrayed as nothing more than a generation of slackers. This is another falsehood perpetrated by the preceding generations trying to make their case for a good label.
Generation X is possibly the most socially aware and responsible generation of any of them. Generation Y acts afraid of hard work. They want to be rich, and they want that wealth now.
Thats what I used to think, but Ive noticed there are a few that are decent people.
I have also tried to become more aware of sounding like an arrogant old snob, who thinks that my generation is the best.
