Clubs join to get gifts for AIDS children

Gift-giving season is right around the corner, and two NE Campus groups are organizing a toy drive.
Helping Children Infected With and Affected by HIV/AIDS will run through Friday, Dec. 7.
The TCC mental health program, NE Campus’ Union of Cultural Diversity (UCD) and the Aids Outreach Center (AOC) have teamed up to collect and distribute toys to children from newborn to 16 for the holidays, Tina Wilkerson, second vice president of UCD, said.
“These families are building a lifetime of memories in a much shorter timeframe than you and I,” she said.
To participate, TCC students, faculty and staff can place new, unwrapped toys in designated gift-wrapped collection boxes.
The boxes are in the Art and Technology Building, Academic Classroom Building and Student Center.
“The children love when they have their own little bag of toys, just for them. We are asking everyone to participate and touch the hearts of these children,” she said.
AOC is also requesting used toys or clothes for distribution to families transitioning from homelessness to an assisted-housing program.
For large donations, such as bikes, cribs or anything that does not fit in these boxes, call Rebecca Wright at 817-335-1994 ext. 214.      AOC is located at 801 Cannon Street in Fort Worth.
For more information regarding the campus toy drive, contact Wilkerson at 817-729-9028.
