SE student to present Girlie Stories

Girlie Stories explores the struggles and rewards of being female in modern society using theatrical monologues in SE Campus’ new Studio Theatre.

Claudia Acosta, a SE student, is the author and co-director of Girlie Stories, the first production on SE campus to use the small and personal Studio Theatre.

The Theatre is dedicated solely to original student works.
Acosta’s play is also the first original student written and directed entry into the American College Theatre Festival (ACTF) in Wash-ington, D.C.

“Girlie Stories is a series of monologues where each piece is a journey into the questions of what it is to be a woman,” she said.
The play includes nine separate monologues preformed by three actresses and one actor: Kim Evans, Sarah Porrit, Deborah Prickett and John Davis.

David Vieira will direct along with Acosta.

“The stories are easily malleable. All people can make it their own and open it up to see the similarities in their lives or in the life of someone they know,” she said.

The intent in developing the play is to delve into the nature of feminine individuality, sinew and discovery, Acosta said.

“I hope that everyone—men, women and children—can enjoy the play and understand the strength of being female,” she said.
Girlie Stories will be performed Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 15-16, at 8 p.m., in SED 250.

Reservations must be made, for only limited seating is available. For inquiries, call 817-515-3438.

As well as being entered in the ACTF, the production will be part of the John Cauble Short Play and the SiTV play competitions later this year.
