Today-June 29 Pocket Sandwich Theatre will be staging Marvins Room, an off-Broadway hit by Scott McPherson. The play is about love and growth manifested by the relationship between two prodigal sisters and a teenage boy who have to endure some of lifes toughest lessons. The play provokes laughter through tears, detailing one womans suffering and her familys healing. Ticket prices are $6 on Thursday, $10 Friday, $14 Saturday and $8 Sunday. Today-June 30 Hip Pocket Theatre presents Preview for the Spacefleet Landing on Earth in 2001 A.D. by Uriel, Cosmic Visionary. In this play, Earthlings prepare for the ultimate landing of the long-awaited Spacefleet, inspired by the visions and predictions of the cosmic being Uriel, a.k.a. Peggy Bott Kirby, with Dick Harris as Alta of Planet Vixall, Interplanetary Ambassador of the 33 worlds. Heavenly Spheres will perform the music. Today-July 6 The Circle Theatre in downtown Fort Worth presents the revival of the romantic comedy Sylvia, about a man, his marriage and the feisty stray dog he brings home from the park. Complications multiply when the dog becomes a major bone of contention between man and wife. The play is rated R for language. Single tickets are $15-$30 with discounts offered. Today-July 7 The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) is currently being performed at Stage West on University Drive near the TCU campus. The play covers all of the works of the noted playwright, Shakespeare, including the sonnets, in the space of two acts and using only three actors. According to information about the production, the piece gives a fresh perspective on both well-known and lesser-known classics. Among the offerings are a rap version of Othello. Slapstick humor abounds, with some audience participation. Complete Works is directed by Stage West artistic director Jim Covault and features local favorites Jakie Cabe, NE campus assistant professor of drama, Ben Cole and David Novinski. Today-August 9 The Art Corridor II on SE Campus presents Surface: Works on Walls. Regional and nationally recognized painters, sculptors and installation artists have created large-scale works on the surface of the walls of the Art Corridor II. Each of the artists had a wall, approximately 10 by 30 feet, to treat with his or her full creative license. The structure of this exhibition allowed the artists to respond to the space and create a unique dialogue between artists. John Frost curates the exhibition. Gallery hours are 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday.
June 20-July 14 Dangerous Liaisons opens at Theatre Arlington. The play follows the seduction of the young and willing Cecile and the demure, yet passionate, Mme. De Tourvel by Valmont, a cynical pleasure-seeker. Valmonts seductive enterprises are encouraged by his former mistress, a wealthy woman with an ulterior motive. However, things do not go well for the Valmont and his scheme. Set in France among aristocrats before the revolution, this play is a timeless tale of sexual manners, revenge and manipulation. Performances are Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. No performance will be given on July 4. July 5-21 Molemo, written and directed by Johnny Simons, will be performed at the Hip Pocket Theatre on Fort Worths west side. The play is set in July 1947, the summer of the Roswell, N. M. incident. A strange, possibly live cargo is flown in from New Mexico to Carswell Air Force Base. The cargo is suspected to have escaped into the shadows of a dusty rural road somewhere in Cowtown, the nickname of Fort Worth. Lake Simons will perform puppetry. July 25-28 Paper Plane, a premiere written and performed by Lake Simons, will be presented at the Hip Pocket Theatre on the west side of Fort Worth. The production explores the life and achievements of Amelia Earhart through fact and fantasy. Entering into Amelias subconscious, a little land emerges, complete with towns and hillsides, where all of her fears and fantasies live. Simons toys with her emotions finding both the reserved and restless sides of Amelias imagination. The story is told through performance, dance, puppetry, mask and music. July 31-September 7 The Circle Theatre presents Over the River and Through the Woods, a new comedy by Joe DiPietro. A young mans decision about his future sparks an eruption of unsolicited advice, matchmaking, general meddling and unending food from his four Italian-American grandparents, who provide all the guilt, love, exasperation and fury that come with being a member of any family.
