Today-Dec. 7 The NW Campus Visual Arts Department is presenting its 2002 Visual Arts student exhibit winners in a group exhibition in the Lakeview Gallery. The student winners include Barbara Arabian, Lynda Effertz, Kiki Ford, Rhonda Hanlon and Harry Stark.
Today-Dec. 7 Misery by Stephen King and adapted by Simon Moore is at Circle Theatre. Expect the unexpected in this compellingly cruel thriller. Best-selling romance novelist Paul Sheldon is lucky to be alive, or is he? This stunning stage adaptation of Stephen Kings masterpiece will keep you on the edge of your seat. Today-Dec. 8 Mondrian, 1892-1914: The Path to Abstraction is on exhibit at the Kimbell Art Museum. This is the first exhibit devoted to Piet Mondrians early career, from his student years in Holland as a painter of romantic landscapes to his emergence as an artist of international renown in cosmopolitan pre-World War I Paris. The exhibition features more than 100 paintings and drawings. The Kimbell is the only U.S. venue for this exhibition. For information, contact the museum at 817-654-1034.
Today-Jan. 5 The Amon Carter Museum presents The Master Prints of Edward S. Curtis: Portraits of Native America. This special exhibition showcases 65 master prints selected by Curtis for an exhibit called The North American Indian, which traveled to Boston and other U.S. cities in the first decade of the 20th century. The platinum prints on art nouveau mounts testify to Curtis standing as a major American photographer. Today-Apr. 27 The Amon Carter Museum Exhibitions and Public Programs presents Laura Gilpin and the Navajo: An Enduring Project. For over 40 years beginning in the 1930s, Gilpin visited the vast Navajo Reservation documenting the people, landscape and culture. Her photography reveals a moving record of the region and its people before both were dramatically altered by federal intervention, a world war and reorganization of the tribal government. Gilpins photographs reveal the trust, mutual respect and genuine affection that the Navajo people have for her. Nov. 22 & Dec. 4 Pocket Sandwich Theatre will present 4 Out of 5 Doctors as its Christmas show, Holiday On Thin Ice. Shows will be Friday, Nov. 22, and Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 6:30 p.m. For five years, the show has been a holiday season presentation at the theater. Nov. 23 The Pocket Sandwich Theatre presents the blues group, Ken Savage and the Best Kept Secret. The band blends soul-stirring guitar with a driving rhythm section. The music ranges from Stevie Ray Vaughn to Jerry Lee Lewis. Ticket costs are $10 and seating will begin at 6:30 p.m. with food and beverage service offered until 7:30 p.m. The show will start at 8 p.m. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling 214-821-1860.
Nov. 23 The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is currently offering a free program on aging in conjunction with the Secrets of Aging Exhibit. Seniors, health care professionals, children of aging parents and anyone who is currently aging can learn more about the aging process. Dr. James Simpkins will present Keeping the Brain Strong. Nov. 25 TWU presents a gallery lecture by nationally renowned artist Catherine Angel. A record of Angels experiences surviving breast cancer, To Embrace is a photographic installation surveying issues of death and time. A series of panels, alternating between collages and mounted pages of text, form an integrated unity that is at times chilling and moving, but always enlightening the human spirit. Nov 29-Dec. 21 The Stockyards Station in Fort Worth will have entertainment every weekend during the Christmas holidays. Santa will be there from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition to the Stockyards Stations Christmas entertainment, visitors can enjoy the regularly scheduled guided walking tours of the Stockyards historical district as well as the authentic displays of the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame and Sterquell Wagon Museum. Nov. 26-Dec 23 The Pocket Sandwich Theatre will be staging Ebenezer Scrooge, a musical adaptation of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol. Dec. 3 The Womens Museum is open late every Tuesday night and is offering free admission from 5-9 p.m. Free programs such as films, lectures, performances, family activities, book signings, gallery talks, classes and games will be offered. Dec. 6-Jan. 5 Jubilee Theatre presents Travelin Shoes, a revival of its 1999 holiday musical hit and a tribute to the song stylists known as the Jubilee quartets.
