Seminar to assist with goal setting

Students can learn to take control of their lives by setting goals and making the right decisions during an upcoming seminar on South Campus.

Dennis Lee, academic advisor for the STARS program on South Campus, will present ABC’s To Success—Setting Goals and Making the Right Decisions 12:30 -1:50 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, in the SUB Texas Room.

“The purpose of the workshop is to show students how to set goals and act on those goals,” Lee said.

Lee believes many students entering college the first time need to know about setting goals.

“Not setting goals is the real tragedy here,” he said. “Successful people will tell you that they had a vision.

“Even students that have been here for some time need to refresh their goals … I have to keep refreshing my goals,” he said.

Lee said he never knew how to set goals when he was in college for the first time and although his parental upbringing was good, there were a lot of things his parents did not know.

“With a little guidance, the sky’s the limit,” he said.

Lee said students have to make decisions every day and every decision has an effect or consequence.

“The only way to make the right decisions today is to set the right goals” he said.
