Holiday runs
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, everyone wants to do his part to help brighten the holidays for the less fortunate in our community.
One way TCC students can help is by participating in the second annual Gobble Wobble run or walk, Wednesday, Nov. 15, on South Campus.
The first 200 to sign up and participate will receive a free T-shirt. Entry forms are in HPE134 until noon Tuesday, Nov. 14. The entry fee consists of three non-perishable food items. All proceeds will benefit the Tarrant County Food Bank.
Check in will be at 2 p.m. in the gym. There will be three age groups for both male and female participants. First- and second-place winners from the 18-35, 36-55, and 56 and up age groups will receive prizes. First-place finishers will win turkeys. Second-place finishers will be given Cornish hens.
Contestants can choose to walk or run the three miles of the event. Both will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the north parking lot.
Prizes will be handed out at an awards ceremony in the gym after participants have done their part to feed the hungry.
Light refreshments will be provided after the race, Lona Hatcher of the HPER department said.
Hatcher and several others were instrumental in organizing the event.
Christmas is fast approaching, and to celebrate the season, participants in the Jingle Bell Run for Arthritis can help support local programs and services for suffers of arthritis.
The run, held in downtown Fort Worth, consists of a 5K certified night run, a 5K fun walk and a 1-mile Elf Run for children. After the run, there will be food, drink, raffle prizes, and childrens activities, including Santa Claus.
Run participants will receive jingle bells and a 2000 Jingle Bell Run for Arthritis T-shirt. Awards for the run are given in several categories, including first, second, and third place in 13 different age groups, and overall male/female winners in the open and masters divisions. All runners and walkers will be timed at the event.
Entry is available for both individuals and corporate/team organizations. Teams must be comprised of at least 10 entries to qualify for the fastest team, largest number of team finishers and top team fund-raiser competition awards.
The team deadline for entry is Monday, Nov. 13. Early registration, which ends today, is $15. After today, registration fees are $20. Special reduced rates are available for children 12 and under. Race day entry fee is $20 for all participants.
The Jingle Bell Run for Arthritis will be held Saturday, Nov. 25, in conjunction with downtown Fort Worths holiday weekend, which includes a parade of lights and the Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
Participation is expected to be around 4,000 runners and walkers.
