Holocaust survivor to share experiences

A holocaust survivor and subject of One Survivor Remembers, an HBO documentary, will be the opening speaker for the Anne Frank: A History for Today exhibit.

Gerda Weissman Klein, an author, historian and columnist, will lecture Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 8 p.m. in the Beth-El Congregation, Fort Worth. Her visit is the first of several special events that coincide with the exhibit running through Nov. 26 at the Tandy Center.

Klein was presented with the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Emmy and an Academy Award for her film, the personal account of her time under Nazi oppression, which included three years in a concentration camp.

Klein’s writings include her autobiography, which depicts her experience of the dark years of the Holocaust, which led to her liberation from a death march by her future husband.

Admission to the lecture is open to the public. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the door.

Advance tickets are available at Beth-el Congregation, Congregation Ahavath Shalom and McKinney Memorial Bible Church during regular office hours.

Anne Frank House in Amsterdam created the Anne Frank: A History for Today exhibit to depict Frank’s life story.

The exhibit includes 56 large panels with narrative text and large photographic reproductions. Among the images are numerous family photos as well as passages never published before.

Testimony from Holocaust survivors helps provide information needed to understand the period in which Frank lived.

Other free special events and lectures will include a mixed media exhibit Silent Voices Speak by Holocaust survivor Barbara Shilo as well as The Rescuers, portraits of ordinary people who saved Jews in the Holocaust.
