Collegian takes honors

    The Collegian won first place in specialty newspaper, 2-year college category for its Sept. 19 coverage of the Sept. 11 tragedy during the Associated Collegiate Press National Media Convention last week.

    Student journalists from across the country gathered in New Orleans and entered one paper published this semester for the general excellence competition and one newspaper covering the Sept. 11 tragedy.

    Professional journalists judged the entries at the convention.

    In the general excellence category for 2-year weekly broadsheet,  The Collegian received third place.

    In the 4-year daily broadsheet newspaper category, The Shorthorn, University of Texas Arlington, received first place; University Daily, Texas Tech University, received third, and The Daily Texan, University of Texas Austin, received fourth.

    In the category for newspaper specialty 4-year daily, The Shorthorn received third place.
