Jazz festival free from Denton park

    Students can jazz up their schedule April 26-28 at the Denton Arts and Jazz Festival.

   This free event runs Friday 5 p.m.-11 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-11 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m.-9 p.m.

   The Denton Civic Center Park, in the heart of downtown Denton on 20 acres, provides the perfect setting for the two-and-a-half-day event.

   The Denton Festival Foundation, Inc., in cooperation with the City of Denton and the Dallas/Fort Worth American Federation of Musicians, produces the event with support from individual and corporate sponsorships.

   Over 1,300 musicians, artists and performers attract over 100,000 annually.

   The celebration begins on Friday at 5 p.m. with headliner Wayne Shorter Quartet on the Jazz Stage at 9 p.m.

   Saturday headliner Trout Fishing in America performs on the Celebration Stage at noon, 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

   The Bone Shakers perform at 7 p.m. and Brave Combo, at 9 p.m., ends the evening on the Jazz Stage.

   Sunday community school and university performers along with Bill Tillman Band at 7:30 p.m. will perform on the Jazz Stage.

   The Fine Arts and Crafts Show will encompass 140 fine artists and craftsmen, 40 food and beverage booths, 40 game and activity booths and a large children’s art tent with over 15 activities.

   Clowns, jugglers, art demonstrations and roving performances complement the festivities.
