Job fair to provide interviews

Need-a-Job/ Get-a-job Fair hires students for jobs in numerous fields.

Providing work for those who want it from over 50 employers, the SE Campus event is scheduled Wednesday, April 24, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Main Commons.

“Many employers hire students right then and there. Career and employment services does evaluations after each fair, and many of the companies say we hired ‘X’ number of people today,” Melinda Kinkel, secretary campus services and fair co-coordinator, said.

“The fair is open to anybody. I suggest participants come dressed for an interview and bring a resume,” she said.

Any student or community member lacking a sufficient resume can consult Darrell Whitsell for free resume help in room SEE 206 or call 817-515-3596, Kinkel said.

In the past, turnout for SE Campus job fairs has ranged from 800 to 2,000 job seekers with over 50 potential employers.

Several new businesses will attend this year’s fair, including Digitalinksatellite.com, jeweler James Avery Craftsman Inc. and Unicity Network, Kinkel said.

The most avid hirers are job fair regulars Federal Express Ground and United Parcel Service (UPS). Each employer offers tuition assistance. For example, UPS offers $1,500 a semester tuition reimbursement for day one employees and up to $23,000 in education assistance, Kinkel said.

Other organizations in attendance are Argenbright Security, Bank One, Delta Airlines, Federal Bureau of Prisons, Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce, Radio Shack, Texas Army National Guard, TruGreen ChemLawn and U.S. Navy.
