Second Job Fair to serve county
by KC Jones, reporter
All four TCC campuses will play host to a countywide job fair Tuesday, Aug. 14, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., sponsored by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Various employers will have representatives on the different campuses. SE Campus has Americredit, Avenue, Papa Johns, Arlington Blockbuster and the U.S. Navy in the Commons.
South Campus has Cash America Pawn, Avenue, Papa Johns, Huguley Health Systems and the U.S. Navy in the Student Union Building.
NE Campus has UPS, Clayton Childcare, Conway Trans, Avenue, Argenbright, Papa Johns, Ford Credit, Arlington Blockbuster, Aetna US and the U.S. Navy in the Student Centers Center Corner, near the cafeteria.
NW Campus has Wise Regional Health, Avenue, Papa Johns and the U.S. Navy in B118, across from the cafeteria.
Susan Hammons, TCC director of public relations and marketing, expects many more companies.
Based on what the Star-Telegram told us last time, most of the companies sign up a short time before the event, she said.
The last job fair, April 25, was considered a success by those involved. Twenty-four different companies were represented on NE Campus. South and SE had 12 each. NW did not participate in the Spring, but will this month.
The Star-Telegram estimates a total of 1,800 people attended; most went to the NE Campus. According to Hammons, the job fair is a good promotional value for TCC because the Star-Telegram ads include the TCC name and logo. The advertising value was over $170,000.
In addition, the Sunday edition of the Star-Telegram, before the job fair, had a special insert that gave TCC career employment services promotional space.
The Star-Telegram job fair is continuing to grow. The employers are charged for having a booth, and in return get their name in the ad, Hammons said.
Employers desiring advertising and booth information should call the Star-Telegram 817-390-7119.
This is a wonderful marketing opportunity. Even though the job fair is for the students, it draws more people from outside the college. Some people may want to find a particular job or to advance in the one they have, but may need skills to qualify. They are introduced to the courses and services TCC offers, she said.
More than 80 percent of those who attended the April job fair were not TCC students according to surveys completed at the event.
Again, Star-Telegram will promote the job fair through ads in their editions. A special section will appear in the Sunday, Aug. 12, newspaper.
TCC corporate services will provide complementary resume reviews and interviewing tips. Professional attire is recommended.
Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, call 817-390-7061, or contact a TCC campus career center. The next job fair is scheduled Nov. 7.
