South Campus — La Familia Day
South open house right for family

Though under threat of stormy weather, hundreds attended the South Campus open house recently.

“It is a great way for the public to see what we have to offer here at the college,” Daniel Chacon, dean of student development, said.

La Familia Day kicked off with a program full of activity.

Area performers provided entertainment. Among the entertainers were local youth, including the North Side High School Mariachi band, Ballet Folklorico and Forest Oak Middle School Dance Group. The Beth Eden Baptist Church orchestra, Ambassadors Choir and TCC’s gospel group Voice United provided spiritual music.

The Fort Worth police department had public information displays.

“We are here to let people know what security is available,” Sgt. Anthony Woolum of the TCC police department said.

“Most of the area police officers have gotten their education here,” he said.

A home security display had information on different locking mechanisms for doors and windows. A stolen vehicle station illustrated what car thieves steal.

On display was a pickup truck that had been built from stolen parts. The police department also provided child fingerprinting.

La Familia Day also provided interactive entertainment, including games in the Gym, face painting and fine arts. Spectators could participate in an opera workshop and watch theater scenes from plays and musicals in the Fine Arts Complex.
