Social Security services to benefit TCC students

A new program may benefit TCC students.

For years Social Security work incentive programs have been offered on TCC campuses. The programs were created to promote independence for people who are initially entering or re-entering the work force.

For those receiving Social Security disability benefits, the Social Security “Return to Work” rules are difficult to understand.

Learning About Social Security Opportunities (LASSO) is a new service that United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Tarrant County is providing to individuals who are receiving Social Security disability benefits. This service will allow recipients to find out what impact entering or returning to work will have on their Social Security disability income and medical benefits.

The UCP has been providing programs and services to people with disabilities for over 47 years. Of every dollar received, 91 cents goes directly into program funding. At the moment, the UCP is providing services and supporting 2,100 individuals and their families.

With LASSO, a UCP benefits specialist will provide work incentives planning and assistance to beneficiaries with disabilities (and their families) to ascertain if employment is an option.
