Celebration filled with music
Latin music and flamenco dancers helped South Campus celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month last week.
Noche Bohemia, sponsored by Latino Student Union (LSU) and student activities, featured Alondra Martinez, flamenco dancer, and songs performed by Duo del Recuerdo.
Dressed in native folk costumes, the Izcalli Dance Co. performed the Mexican Hat dance, a ballet folklorico routine.
Ballet Folklorico is a colorful style of dance that comes from Jalisco, Mexico, Bertha Garcia, owner of Izcalli Dance Co., said.
Victor Hugo Dominguez read humorous short stories in Spanish and performed songs that moved the audience to sing along.
There is something wonderful about the Hispanic culture, especially when it comes from the heart, Lizeth Escorcia, LSU president, said.
Hispanics bring you into their hearts, she said.
