Letters to the editor

    Dear Editor:

In response to Bernie Scheffler’s column, the aim of Osama bin Laden and his followers is simple: they want to kill all Americans. They have said so. They are dedicated to our total destruction. They are at war with us. Even though they are individuals, not a country; it is still a war.
Military action is the only way to find them and bring them to trial or to persuade the Taliban government to turn them over to us for trial. There’s no peaceful way to do this, due to the Taliban’s non-cooperation. If we don’t fight back, they have won. Unacceptable.
Scheffler says we may make them hate us more with military action. How much more can they hate us if they already want us all dead?
If we allow their terrorism to turn us into frightened children shying at shadows, unwilling to respond appropriately, they have won. Unacceptable.

    Dear Editor:

I just had the opportunity to read the Oct. 17 issue of The Collegian and want to send my sincere congratulations to Chris Taylor for winning first place in editorial writing at the TCCJA conference awards banquet. It is certainly great having such a talented individual represent our school.
