Letters to the editor

Dear Editor:

In a recent issue of The Collegian, in the opinion section, there was a column written by the editor voicing his support for the replacement of our current garbage pickup system in the Fort Worth area.

I, for one, (as a citizen and student on NW Campus) am against this.

First, most people have used garbage (trash) bags for a long time and will not want to change to a cart system, no matter what the city demands.

Second, even if there is a change from using bags to carts, the companies that make the trash bags will have to reduce the size of the bags, cut costs or go out of business.

I see a need for change in the way our trash pickup system works, but there is no need to go to once a week pickup.

For the sake of everyone’s safety, please get the word to the city hall: We won’t support once-a-week pickup.

My reason for my belief is that if there is only one pickup a week, most people will have so much collected garbage and trash that it will become a problem: much more of a problem than with two times a week as it is now.

Dear Editor:

I want to make a comment regarding a article in a recent issue of The Collegian.

The article was about obesity and teens with regards to a lawsuit against the food chain of McDonald’s that happened earlier this year.

I am overweight, but my problem has partly to do with my medical condition.

I was born with a thyroid condition that is called hypoparathyroidism.
This condition deeply affects the way my organs operate. In addition, the condition affects my metabolism, so my food doesn’t digest or process correctly.

I don’t agree that people should be labeled because of the way they are.

When a person’s obesity or being overweight is part or in whole due to medical conditions as mine is, people should understand.
