Lighted walks to benefit cancer research

Thousands of North Texans will participate in a fund-raising walk this month to help fight cancer.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will hold its third annual Light the Night walk Sept. 20-23 to commemorate lives touched by cancer.

There is no registration fee, but participants who raise $25 or more will carry one of the Society’s illuminated balloons.

Cancer survivors will carry white balloons, and all other participants will carry red balloons.

“Already we have over 1,500 people and 250 teams participating,” Amy Keener, community relations coordinator for the Society, said.

Local merchants will provide food and refreshments for the celebrations at each walk site.

Walkers can choose between four different Metroplex locations.
Eureka Park in Denton and the Mesquite Rodeo will hold walks Thursday, Sept. 20.

Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie and the Fort Worth Stockyards will have walks Sunday, Sept. 23.

All walks begin at 7:30 p.m.
