Marathons, triathlons to benefit cancer study

    The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society has scheduled informational meetings for local residents concerning its upcoming Team in Training program.

    Members of the Team in Training program will travel to various locations to participate in marathons or triathlons in an effort to raise funds to aid in finding cures for leukemia, lymphoma and other blood-related cancers.

    The public is invited to attend the free informational meetings to learn more about the program. Upcoming events include the Country Music Marathon in Nashville, Tenn.; a triathlon in St. Petersburg, Fla., a marathon in Vancouver, Canada, and the King’s Trail Triathlon in Maui, Hawaii.

    Meetings are scheduled for the following dates and locations:

    The Team in Training program trains walkers, runners and cyclists of all levels for their events. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society provides four months of supervised training from experienced coaches; information on injury prevention, training techniques; fund-raising support, ideas, materials and strategies, as well as travel accommodations and entry fees for the event.

    In exchange for their training, participants agree to help raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, with over 75 percent of all funds going directly to research, patient aid and education.
