Grammy artist to play

    A Grammy-winning artist will headline the second annual Sammons Jazz Festival Oct. 26, in the Historic Turtle Creek Pump Station in downtown Dallas.

   Monty Alexander, born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, has a gospel jazz style.

   Having preformed with many musicians in Jamaica throughout his teenage years, Alexander was hired by Milt Jackson and performed with other giants in jazz, including Dizzy Gillespie and Sonny Rollins.

   Alexander will perform 9-10:30 p.m.

   Since 1964, Alexander has recorded with other artists and worked several movie sound tracks with Quincy Jones. He won seven Grammy awards with the album, Unforgettable. He has produced more than 50 CDs, including Yard Movement.
