Movie review--
Best movie hits early in year
by Nick Nance, reporter
Often times humans experience things that are so unbelievable they can lose their grip on reality.
As part of our thought process, we attempt to put scientific reason to everything possible.
Sometimes, though, events have no explanation.
In Richard Geres latest film The Mothman Prophecies, he plays a Washington Post reporter who appears to have the perfect life with his beautiful wife.
His life suddenly and drastically takes a turn as he loses his wife (Debra Messing) to an unexpected illness.
Geres character, John Klein, then finds himself wandering through his life just going through the motions with no meaning or belonging.
When his car breaks down while heading to his next job, he walks to a nearby house for assistance.
He is then threatened by a homeowner and told of how hes been seen there before.
He soon comes into contact with a well-known local law enforcement officer played by Laura Linney.
She apologizes to John for the rude reception and informs him the county has been uneasy of late due to the mysterious events encountered by local citizens.
He arrives in Point Pleasant, W. Va., 400 miles from where he thought he was. He has become part of something unexplainable.
He becomes curious to know what the town people are talking about and begins his search to explain the unexplainable.
He finds himself following numerous leadsall involving similar events.
These events, with no apparent reason for happening, begin to amaze everyone involved.
When predictions involving events from plane crashes to earthquakes come to reality, Johns desire for answers peeks.
John begins to question his own sanity as he unravels more mysteries.
He battles his personal demons and attempts to prevent something horrible from happening in the process.
The events surrounding his decision will leave audiences on the edge of their seats.
Gere and co-stars Linney and Messing deliver solid perform-ances.
Mark Pellingtons The Moth-man Prophecies is a suspenseful, true event story that should remain one of the years best movies.
