SE Campus

   The New Horizons for Women was recognized as Most Spirited Team during the American Heart Walk Oct. 5. Participants included students Linda Vahed, Diana Nguyen, Laura McElroy, Diana Wichter, Luz Sanchez and Jean Bates along with instructor Cheryl Taylor West.

   Phi Theta Kappa will sponsor a Halloween party and dance in the North Ballroom, Thursday, Oct. 31 at 4 p.m. Admission is free.

   Characteristics of Highly Effective Students will be presented 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, in SED-130. The seminar is free to all students.

   Dr. Leonard McCormick, newly named dean of instruction, received an outstanding achievement in design award for his musical direction of Putting It Together at Stage West. The Dallas-Fort Worth Theater Critics Forum presented the award.

South Campus

   Student Government Association is sponsoring a Costume Ball. Costumes are not required, but a prize will be given for best costume. One TCC I.D. will be required per couple, and admittance will be at least one canned food item per person. The food will be donated to the food drive at the conclusion of the dance.    The WIN-R 25th anniversary banquet will be Friday, Oct. 25, at 6:15 p.m. in the SUB. Emily Lunday, WIN-R founder, will be the guest speaker. The art gallery will open following the banquet. Tickets are $10. For tickets and other information, contact Triesha Light at 817-515-4740.

   The career center’s Linking Students to a World of Work will continue with Home-Based Business Forum 11 a.m-12:20 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, in the SUB Forum Room. Experts in the area will tell people who want to be their own bosses how to get started.

   Optimist Club of TCC South Campus is looking for members.
Members will have the opportunity to volunteer in the community, receive leadership training, enhance their résumés and gain greater potential for better employment.

   The Fire Service Training Center will hold its grand opening 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29. The state-of-the-art facility will be used to train personnel from around the state.

   The Dallas-Fort Worth Theater Critics Forum recognized J. Brent Alford, theater director, for outstanding performance by an actor in Theatre Three’s production The Great Sebastians

NE Campus

   Phi Theta Kappa is collecting items for Women’s Haven of Tarrant County until Saturday, Nov. 16.

   The center needs new or gently used clothing and shoes for women and children, lingerie for women, linens, toys and stuffed animals, toiletries, diapers and children’s books (no magazines).

   Collection boxes are in the ATB and outside the Bookstore in the Student Center.

   Student Success Workshops, sponsored by the counseling center, are continuing next week. Degree Planning/Transferring Made Easy will be 5-5:50 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, in CAB 112 (College Hall). Counseling staff will help students complete their degree plans and answer transfer questions during the workshop.

   Communication/Motivation will help students acquire and polish their skills in talking and listening to better relationships with family, friends and professors. The seminar is 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, in CAB 112 (College Hall).
