Basketball contests continue on NE
by Nick Nance, reporter

Intramural basketball continued on NE campus last week when the Texas Boyz played Invasion.

The teams battled throughout the game, but the Texas Boyz were able to hold off a late charge by the Invasion, winning 48-47.

Both teams struggled early in the game, and the number of fouls proved the sloppiness of the game.

Despite poor shots, the Texas Boyz led at half time 28-24. Thirty-six fouls between the two teams increased the aggravation, and there was more trash-talking than basketball being played.

Technical fouls to both teams did little to calm the tension. A surge by Invasion’s Jayson Smith got them close to the Texas Boyz. He scored 12 of his 24 points late in the game, but it was not enough.

Key free-throws late in the game by Casey Nash ensured victory for the Texas Boyz. Nash led the Texas Boyz with 15 points, and Smith led both teams with 24 points.

In intramural action on Wednesday, the Shooters played the Make-ups. The Shooters took over the game and won 60-41.

The first three minutes looked as if the game would be close, but a 16-0 run by the Shooters put them up 27-13 at half time.

New players picked up at half time by the tiring Make-ups provided a much-needed spark, but there was little chance of a come back. Jacob Holmes of the Shooters was too much for the Make-ups to stop.

He scored 24 point for the Shooters although he fouled out with three minutes left to play but still finished the game. Smith, picked up by the Make-ups at half, led in scoring with 17 points.

In the first game of a double header on Friday, the AA Boys played Invasion.

The AA Boys could not get anything to work, and struggled to score any points.

The Invasion played good defense and operated a good offense throughout its 61-27 victory over the AA Boys. Both teams played a clean game.

Dasca Durham was the AA Boys lone spark throughout the game and led AA boys in scoring with 16 points.

Invasion’s Smith proved too much for the AA Boys as he led both teams in scoring with 29 points.

The second game was faster paced. The Mavs played Texas Boys in the highest-scoring game of the season. The Texas Boyz lost an early lead but were able to hang on to win 69-62.

Things looked bad for the Mavs at half time as they were down 35-22. Led by Phillip Paraway and Brian Rogers, they stormed back in the second half.

Rogers led the Mavs in scoring 18 points. Casey Nash of the Texas Boyz led both teams with 28 points.
