Hurst, NE Campus continue preparations for Fall Festival

     The City of Hurst and the NE Campus are sponsoring their third NE Fall Festival Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 14-15, on the east lawn of the campus.
     The event will begin Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with a 5K fun run/walk, sponsored by Harris Methodist Hospital, on the NE Campus.
     Although pre-registrations should be postmarked by Oct. 6, on-site entries will be taken on the day of the race. Starting point and registration will be located by the gym on the west side of the campus.
     The main event kicks off at 11 a.m. Saturday with the opening of an arts and crafts show, a tractor exhibit, a children’s area and live entertainment, including local, regional and state talents.
     Between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday and noon and 4 a.m. on Sunday, the public can choose from numerous free activities.
     Local dignitaries will judge the “Best Pie of Northeast Tarrant County Contest” at 2 p.m. The judges will select winners in four categories according to taste and presentation. Applications are due by Monday, Oct. 9.
     A Children’s Area, sponsored by Cook Children’s Medical Center, will provide fun for all children. Activities will include jugglers, the Fort Worth Zoo’s Wild Wonders, a Bug Bonanza, an emergency vehicle exhibit, games, miniature golf and crafts. Throughout the afternoon, everyone can enjoy performances by Hurst Clown Arounds and local entertainers.
Food vendors will sell hot dogs, hamburgers, corny dogs, barbecue, funnel cakes, ice cream and cold drinks until 11:30 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday.
Saturday’s music acts will begin at 6:30 p.m. with A Hard Night’s Day, followed by      Sons of Harmony, Le Freak and Joe King Carrasco and the Crowns.
     Sunday will feature Grammy winner Brave Combo starting at 2 p.m.
     Corporate sponsors for the event include Coca-Cola Bottling Company, the Star-Telegram, Cook Children’s Medical Center and Guaranty Federal Bank.
