Net webs work of 86 photographers
While on a trip to France and Hungary, Tarrant County College photography teacher, Patricia Richards, saw wonderful examples of photographic art.
I was amazed by the vastness of the variety of the ways people see and how they chose the way they record what they see, she said.
Returning, Richards looked for a way to bring such inspiring, international artists together without the hassles of politics and gallery egos.
Along with fellow curator, Frank W. Long of Los Angeles, they came upon the idea of bringing people from around the world together via the Internet.
Image 2000 brings together 86 photographers from 17 countries. Students and faculty representing TCC include Mamie Bevers, Michael Burns, Suzanne Countryman, Joe R. Myers, Susan Trotter, James Ethridge and Vicki Harris.
Exhibitor and student, Joe R. Myers, who has toured every country in Western Europe, said Richard Doherty and Peter Feresten (both associate professors of art) are very supportive of the students.
Speaking of the NE Campus photography department, Mr. Myers said, This is absolutely the place to go. I just cant say enough.
Vicki Harris, an instructional associate, runs the photo lab. But as a photographer, she mainly deals with suburban landscapes and specializes in the encroachment of commercial and residential areas on the land. She has taken up photographing memorials of people killed on roads, the subject of her entry.
One of the mediums used in the exhibit is the Russian-built Lomo camera. Meant to be carried everywhere and record everything, the camera has no view finder and no framing.
Image 2000 is a non-profit exhibition open to the public and runs through Jan. 3, at Artcentre of Plano, 1039 East 15th Street, Plano.
