New dean impressed with TCC
By Laura Vatalaro, se news editor
The new SE dean of student development and educational services, the first to be the sole holder of this title on that campus, has been impressed with the staff, faculty and students at TCC.
Rusty Fox's duties include supervising counseling services, career services, graphic and media services, disability services, health services, library services and all student activities.
Foxs main duty is to provide a voice for these programs while planning meetings with the dean of instruction and the president.
The faculty is really hard to knock down. It really helps to have an energetic and truly invested faculty to lead our activities, he said.
Previously, Fox was coordinator of academic advising at Brookhaven College in the Dallas County Community College District. Then he was the director of advising and counseling for Oklahoma City Community College, where he eventually became the dean of student development for more than three years. Currently, he serves as vice president of the National Two-Year College Commission for the National Academic Advising Summer Institute.
I have been amazed at how the faculty genuinely care about their students and want to help them prepare for the future. A lot of places talk about that, but this place seems to be really interested in doing that. We have the people and the skills to do it. I am pretty excited to be a part of that, he said.
Fox and the other SE administrators have been already making plans to improve the registration.
(Improving the registration process) is important because if you are one of the students who is waiting in line for half an hour just to find out the class you need is no longer available, it's frustrating. The president and the rest of the administration are always looking for better ways to handle things in the future, he said.
