NSYNC Ntime for local appearance
by Ashley Clark, entertainment editor
Just in time to generate more hype and ticket sales for the July 8 appearance at Texas Stadium, Cinemark will release NSYNC: Bigger Than Live at the IMAX 2D Friday.
The oversized screen displays highlights from the bands No Strings Attached tour, and the film is exactly what one might expectJustin, Joey, JC, Chris and Lance in the longest teenybopper music video ever made.
This is definitely a fan-generated film.
Who else would find $10 adequate for one meteoric backstage scene and nine continual concert scenes for a total of 48 minutes?
Not to say that the concert itself is not entertaining; in fact, the release seems like a smart promotional move.
All the lunch boxes, notebooks, stickers and million dollar sales are justified here.
As difficult as it may be for some to admit, these guys really are talented.
They have strong, poignant voices, and it appears that no lip-syncing is involved.
All of the members are also talented dancers, and the producers have thoroughly invested in the entire concert.
Fireworks, confetti, frequent costume changes and amazing stage effects highlight such hits as Tearing Up My Heart, Its Gonna Be Me, This I Promise You and Bye Bye Bye.
One of the most entertaining moments is the opening number No Strings Attached.
As the curtain rises, Pinocchio is heard singing Ive Got No Strings as the singers are lowered from the top of the stage on puppet strings in their respective costumes.
The effects are fun; the song is uplifting, and the boys look adorable. They give a wonderful performance that resembles a delightful little theme park showcase.
A later performance of Digital Get Down displays impressive costume and lighting effects.
The screen above the stage becomes a computer screen on which someone is looking up NSYNC on a search program. The silhouettes of the members appear on screen.
Then, as their song begins, they enter from the screen in the dark wearing shirts and pants made out of light-reflective material bathed in neon lights.
As the camera spins around to show all of the I love Justin and NSYNC Rules signs being held by adoring 13-year-olds, the atmosphere also adds to the fun and excitement of the concert.
Alas, it is just a movie, and its not even in 3D. But perhaps the ticket price at the IMAX is a fair deal compared to the $75 to attend the show at Texas Stadium.
If not, tickets are still on sale at Ticketmaster.
Bigger Than Live assures that No Strings Attached in Dallas will be well worth the price.
