LRC opens study/snack area

A new common area has opened for students on South Campus, the Study Break Cafe in the LRC.

“We have set up a cozy Riverwalk-style cafe so students can come and have a snack while they study,” Janet Lee, learning center coordinator, said.

The area has a snack machine and a drink machine, and students are allowed to bring their own snacks into the area. The center provides magazines to read, and the cafe is set up so students can enjoy the view, she said.

“We wanted to make the library more accessible to students and more convenient for them to have a snack while they are here,” Melissa Speed, public services librarian, said.

“We wanted to make it more than just a place to study,” she said.
Library staff has received positive responses from students since the cafe opened in the beginning of April, Speed said.

The Study Break Cafe will offer free coffee during finals week. The cafe is located in the far right corner on the first floor of the library.
