Registration begins for art, language course in Paris
Students have the opportunity to learn about art in a city noted for its arts and artists.
The departments of art and foreign languages on NE Campus are now accepting registration forms for Art in Paris, a class to be held May 10-21 in Paris, France.
This is our third year, and our trip has always been a success, Dr. Jane Harper, chair of the Humanities Division, said. We only take 14 students on a first-come, first-serve basis. Students interested in participating should turn in their registration forms as quickly as possible, she said.
This class is for credit or non-credit students. If the student would like credit for this course, he/she can sign up for ARTS 1301, Art Appreciation, three hours credit; ARTS 1376, Contemporary Art studies, three hours credit, or three one-hour courses in French. Non-credit students would register for continuing education classes.
Im looking forward to the third year of doing this course, Martha Gordon, assistant professor of art, said. In December, Dr. Harper and I are going to stay in Paris for just under a week to research the places where we will be taking the students.
Interested students must complete a registration form, which can be picked up in the FAC 301, pay a $400 deposit and enroll for the class in November.
The full cost of the class is $2600 per person plus TCCD tuition and fees. The cost includes airfare, metro pass, hotel (double occupancy), museum entrance fees, daily breakfast, five dinners and two excursions.
This is a wonderful trip, Harper said. We take the students to museums, architectural sites, gardens where artists were inspired, artists homes and cathedrals. The two major excursions this year will be to Chartres, the location of a major cathedral, which took decades to build. We will also visit Giverny, where we will visit the home of Monet. The students have a notebook of assignment sheets, and everyday they turn one in about the places we have visited.
Dr. Harper, who is a former French professor, and Gordon, whose degree is in art, are the two teachers who will accompany the students on this trip.
