Speaker to delve into personality traits

A presentation on SE Campus will delve into the personality traits and habits of successful people Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. in the North Ballroom.

Characteristics of Highly Effective Students is a free presentation for students.

The presentation focuses on the nonacademic habits and behaviors that successful students employ, Bob Phanelson, student development coordinator, said.

“The whole idea is to teach students to develop the same skills and behaviors that make a successful student,” he said.

“I will explain how to bring those skills into corporate America,” he said.

Phanelson stressed that the presentation he will make should dispel the mode of thinking that many students have.

He said many students believe that “only people who are top notch geniuses and straight A students are successful.”

Such views are wrong because the individual’s mentality is frequently the impetus for success, Phanelson said.

“Successful people do certain things. They have certain behaviors that anyone can learn to emulate. It does not matter what the person’s race, gender or sexual orientation is. Anyone can learn to be a successful person both as a student and professionally,” he said.
