Ceremony to honor hygienists with pins
NE Campus will honor its dental hygiene students next week with a pinning ceremony.
The ceremony, highlighting first-and second-year dental students, will be held Thursday, April 26, at 7 p.m. in the Student Centers Center Corner.
I think this is a nice way to reflect on two years of hard work and personal challenges, Terri Patrick, dental hygiene instructor, said. It is a nice time to reward the students for their accomplishments.
The 25 first-year students will receive their oath, and the 19 second-year students will receive their school pin.
Jackie Johnson will reflect on some of the events during the two years, both the trials and the fun that drew us together as a group, she said.
The occasion will showcase the students progress and allow for further interactions between faculty, students and parents.
Students are recognized for the scholarships and awards they have received throughout the year. Clinical awards are announced and plaques will be rewarded for expertise in various aspects of patient services.
Two students will learn of their nomination to Sigma Phi Alpha, the national dental hygiene honor society.
Barbara Shearer, associate professor and dental hygiene coordinator, said, This is an opportunity for the parents to get a tour of the clinic and see where their children have been spending their time for the past two years.
The clinic on NE Campus gives students the opportunity to get hands- on training while still learning the basics of dentistry.
