United States needs proactive leadership
by KC Jones, ne news editor

In the light of America’s 9-11 wake up call, it seems true that the majority here is being controlled by the few.

Now is the time for all good men to stand up for what they believe in.

Simply look at the generally sheepish attitude of Americans in the past.

Madeline Murray O’Hare was one person who was very influential in the termination of prayer in school. She used certain agencies to bring the issue of removing prayer in school before the governing body and won.

Was O’Hare’s opinion as an atheist shared with a majority of Americans?

Statistics imply the majority of Americans consider themselves Judeo/Christian in belief.

It was a lack of leadership of those who have principles to stand up for the beliefs that are sacred to them that has allowed this country to move so far from morality.

Bob Brock, executive pastor of Christ Church Assembly of God in Fort Worth, says leadership is influence.

“Many people don’t exercise their options. They become lackadaisical and disillusioned. When it comes to the loss of liberty like prayer in school, many feel it could never happen.

“After Sept. 11, the glaring reality of what is going on in the real world revealed something very interesting. Voices across America asked for prayer. Those who had advocated removing prayer before changed their stance during the crisis and tragedy,” he said.

This country has been drifting toward isolationism in a personal way.

People no longer know their neighbors or what they believe in.

This way of life is very different from that in most other countries where communities are close like loving families.

But, most of the families in America no longer have leaders in their own homes.

The last few generations seem to have produced spoiled brats with bad attitudes.

The parents may have worked hard, but instead of spending time with and nurturing their families, they bought them off with material possessions.

A lot of parents did not discipline their children and did not provide the role models needed to reproduce leadership qualities.

If people who care about positive things like hope, love and compassion will become proactive, the results of constructive leadership will be prevalent.
