District PTK chapters win at area regional convention

All four TCC Phi Theta Kappa chapters received recognition at the regional convention in Los Colinas earlier this March.
Each chapter attained Five-Star status. Elise Price, chapter advisor on SE, has been involved for six years.

“This is quite an achievement since a high level of participation and planning is involved to qualify for this highest level,” she said.

To receive Five-Star status, a chapter must meet many requirements including accomplishing a certain number of inductions, orientations, activities, events and meetings.

In addition, each chapter received the Pinnacle award for realizing a minimum of 10 percent growth in enrollment from the previous year.

The SE Campus chapter won several honors. Elise Price was inducted into the Texas Hall of Honor for Advisors.

Dr. Judith J. Carrier, campus president, was inducted into the Texas Hall of Honor for College Presidents. This chapter’s exceptional involvement in the community presented through their Hallmark Awards entries also earned it recognition as a Top Texas Chapter.

South Campus member Blanca Salinas won an award for her Fellowship Hallmark essay, while Sonia Dilolli, NE vice president of fellowship, was given a certificate of recognition for hers.

From NW Campus, Eric Galloway was inducted into the Texas Hall of Honor for his leadership as District II vice president. Hiep Nguyen, chapter president, received the distinction of Outstanding Member, which also gave him a place in the Hall of Honor. Charles Migot, a contributing non-member, received recognition as a Friend of Texas because of his outstanding service to the chapter.

Dee Dee Rogers, advisor for the NE Chapter, knows first hand how much the officers worked to attain the Five-Star status.

“I know our chapter is very proud to have accomplished so much in one year. Community college organizations are handicapped by transient, unpredictable participation, but the students were able to use their resources and leadership to succeed,” she said.
