SE to sponsor interactive PTK seminars
An interactive seminar Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 6:30 p.m. in the North Ballroom on SE Campus begins a five-part series, sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) and the National Collegiate Honor Society.
Three known experts will participate in the live interactive panel on the marginalized community in society. The program is designed to accompany PTKs 2001 topic, Customs, Traditions and Celebrations: The Human Drive for Community.
The first panelist, Dr. Evelyn Hu-DeHart, is the chairman of the department of ethnic studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder, as well as the director of the Center for Studies of Ethnicity and Race in America. She is also the founder of the Asian/Pacific American Womens Leadership Institute.
Dr. Carlos Cortes is professor emeritus of history at the University of California, Riverside and a member of the Summer Institute for Intercultural Communications at Harvard University. He has published several books on Latino culture.
Dr. Gemma Beckley is the chairman of the social work department at Rust College in Holly Springs, Miss. She has lectured extensively on cultural diversity and social issues.
