Test scores delivered quicker by internet

Prospective students needing to take the state-mandated entrance exam for the first time will no longer have to wait for their writing results.
Accuplacer is a computer-based alternative TASP test that is given to those who are taking the state-required test for the first time. TCC implemented the test in 1999.
TCC started giving the MAPS test as an alternative, then offered the computerized Accuplacer. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board approved electronic grading in August allowing students immediate results.
"The test is easier to administer and takes less time," Seldon Maple, testing coordinator, said.
The TASP takes five hours while the Accuplacer takes only three, he pointed out.
Since the test is given over the Internet, if the computers go down in the testing center, the test can be administered at any of the other computers on campus with Internet capability.
In past years, the English essay section was sent to the company that administered the test, graded by hand, and then mailed back to the person who took the test. Essays are now graded electronically on the spot.
"The test is more cost effective to administer and score. The test is only $3 per student while previously a test would cost $9 to $10 per person," he said.
The fee is $29 and must be paid at the Business Services office.
The test is given at all Tarrant County College testing centers. A picture I.D. and a receipt are required.
Accuplacer is given on a walk-in basis on NE Campus. The testing center is open Monday-Thursday 9 a.m.-7 p.m., and Friday 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Starting Nov. 11, NE’s testing center will be open for Accuplacer testing only from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
     South Campus also accepts walk-ins Monday-Thursday 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Friday 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and Saturday 9:30 a.m.-noon.
The NW Campus is open for Accuplacer testing Monday-Friday 8 a.m.- noon.
SE Campus offers testing Monday-Thursday 8 a.m.-7 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m.- 5 p.m.
