Students drilled on fitness at SE

Left, right, left, right!
These words most likely come to mind when one thinks about boot camp.
This steady rhythm also brings to mind shaved heads, assault rifles, shouting drill sergeants and lots of push-ups.
But in the case of the TCC Southeast Boot Camp, the left-right cadence was used last week to promote physical fitness and well being to students.
The program, which will have two more sessions, is led by various physical education instructors and usually lasts about 45 minutes per session.
The only requirements are that a person must be a TCC student and have the will to get fit.
No fee is charged, and all aspects of physical fitness are covered.
The workout begins with the thumping beats of hip hop and leads into group activities later while David Williams, instructor, leads from the center of the floor on his microphone. Activities include running, jumping rope, running hurdles and throwing a medicine ball.
Approximately 50 students are expected for each session and are divided into small teams.
These teams utilize each other to complete various stations and provide moral support to achieve a maximum workout.
The TCC Boot Camp is a way to meet new people and exercise at the same time.
Most students attend the boot camp for personal gain while others are there as part of their physical education class.
Hoda Emam works out as part of her Tai-Kwan-Do training regime.
Ive done these camps before and will definitely attend all the rest," she said. TCC has good intramural activities.
Erik Barber attends the camp as part of his weightlifting class and said it is for his own personal glory.
The two remaining camps are Thursday, March 29, or Wednesday, April 25, at 12:30 p.m. in the gym.
