NE singers to perform with area opera

Many people have goals that they hope to accomplish in their lifetime, but for two NE Campus sophomores, theirs are only a step away.

Brian Hayes and Argyle Woodruff have been given an opportunity that most people only dream of. Both will perform in the Fort Worth Opera chorus next month.

“This is a great experience for us and a wonderful opportunity to sing at Bass Hall,” Woodruff said.

Hayes and Woodruff went to UTA to look at the campus. While there, they sang for Jing Ling-Tam, director of choral activities and vocal studies, and chorus master for the Fort Worth Opera.

She asked them to come back with a prepared Italian song and audition. After the audition, Tam called them back and accepted them for the chorus of the opera Norma.

Norma is an Italian opera written by Vincenzo Bellini.

“This is a great opportunity to be a professional singer,” Hayes said. “We are grateful for Kathryn Garber, music instructor, and James Barros, associate professor of music, for the opportunity they have opened up for us—not only with Norma, but other things that we might not have experienced if we had not come to TCC.”

The opera will start on Friday, Jan. 18, and continue until Sunday, Jan. 20.
