Snipes' film undisputedly boring
by Nick Nance
Boxing has recently been linked to individuals with uncontrollable rage toward people they come in contact with. This is the case in the new movie Undisputed.
Heavyweight champion James 'Ice Man' Chambers self-destructs by losing control of his violent side. He is convicted of raping a woman in his hotel room.
Chambers is sentenced to prison. Rumors circulate back to Chambers about the facility's unbeaten boxer. He then confronts Monroe Hutchen (Wesley Snipes) to prove he will be second to no one.
This confrontation leads to a lunchroom fight between the two. It lands Hutchen in solitary confinement while Chambers is not punished.
Chambers later learns he is heading toward bankruptcy; he knows he needs to start boxing soon. Knowing such a match would be a great way to make money, fellow inmate Emmanuel 'Mendy' Ripstein (Peter Falk) sets up a prison boxing match between the two men.
The match will decide the real champion. The prison guard captain agrees to hold and referee the match.
Despite the presence of big names such as Falk, Rhames and Snipes Undisputed is boring. The plot is old and poorly developed. The only good thing about the movie is its length. Snipes fans will be disappointed.
However, the most disappointing performance was from Falk. Falk obviously did the movie for the money. The performance was poor.
Also, this film cannot be masked as a decent movie for children. The violence and vulgar language limit the target audience.
