Tadpole hooks film viewers into catch-of-the-day movie
by Nick Nance, managing editor
Filming location of a movie often emerges as another character.
This is the case for the new movie Tadpole, filmed in Manhattan.
Tadpole follows Oscar Grubman (Aaron Stanford) on his Thanksgiving with his Dad (John Ritter) and stepmother Eve (Sigourney Weaver).
While home for Thanksgiving, Oscar is set in his desire to profess his love for his stepmother.
Oscar is a very intelligent 15-year old who speaks French, and reads Voltaire.
Also, he is bored with the immature, thoughtless girls he goes to school with.
Oscars father is a history professor at Columbia and his stepmother is a biologist.
They are wealthy and so are their friends. However, this does not prevent Eves best friend Diane (Bebe Neuwirth) from seducing Oscar and sleeping with him.
Constantly referred to as a 40-year-old trapped in a 15-year-olds body, Oscar is obviously much more mature than his age reflects.
A humorous scene takes place in a restaurant where Oscar, Diane, his father and Eve are having dinner. Diane looks for an excuse to work their night of passion into the conversation.
Oscars father figures it out when he witnesses Oscar and Diane kissing. Oscars father seems not to care too much about their friend seducing his son.
Eve confronts her friend on her intentions and reasons for taking advantage of Oscar.
Tadpole is a delightful twist on love and lust, showing what those emotions can do to people of any age at any time. Despite some slow moments, the film is more than worth sitting through these droning scenes.
Newcomer Stanford depicts his young character in an exceptional fashion. Weaver and Ritter team up to make a great on-screen pair.
Tadpole is a recent film to emerge from this years Sundance Film Festival and is a great change of pace moviegoers will enjoy.
