South seminars to aid students

    Help for students is just a seminar away on South Campus with several areas sponsoring workshops.

    How to Take a Test and Pass will be Tuesday, Oct. 2, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the SUB Texas Room. It will be repeated Thursday, Oct. 11, 6-7:20 p.m.

    Annie Dobbins, counselor and instructor of psychology, will help students who are anxious about their midterm exams. She will present techniques to help student improve their performance on tests.

    This presentation is part of the College Student Survival Seminars, sponsored by the counseling center and student activities.

    Women in New Roles (WIN-R) will sponsor Seven Tips for Career Success Tuesday, Oct. 2, 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. in the SUB Living Room.

    Offering suggestions for career success, Cynthia Boyd, management and communication consultant, will speak to students.
“Staying focused and surrounding yourself with the best people you can is a positive first step,” she said.

    The presentation will address new trends, financial management and decision-making.

    Also on Oct. 2, Flo Stanton, campus nurse, will present Positive Self Talk. Part of the Health Forum Series, this seminar is sponsored by health services in collaboration with the WIN-R program. It is scheduled 12:30-1:15 p.m. in the SUB Living Room.

    The career center continues its Career Success Series with Career Trends in Business, Management, Marketing. This seminar, designed to help students understand the business field, will be offered twice: Monday, Oct. 1, 11 a.m.-12:20 p.m. in the SUB Forum Room and Thursday, Oct. 4, 9:30-10:50 a.m. in the SUB Living Room.

    The center also has scheduled Preparing for a Career in Teaching. Aimed at education majors, this session will meet Thursday, Oct. 11, 12:30-1:50 p.m. in the SUB Living Room.

    In addition, Surfing the Web for Careers will be offered Tuesday, Oct. 16, 11 a.m.-12:20 p.m. in the SUB Forum Room. This seminar is part of the Job Search Series.
