TCC, UTA combine to ease transfers
by Katy O’Holloran, reporter

After completing their basics, many TCC students transfer to the University of Texas at Arlington to receive their baccalaureate degrees.

Jimmy Wells, UTA junior, business marketing major, transferred to UTA this year.

Wells was a student at SE Campus for three years.

“I felt that after high school I wasn’t ready for a four-year university. Junior college helped me mature, and I did not lose a lot of money when I made careless mistakes,” he said.

Students planning to transfer need to know UTA’s requirements to complete the process more efficiently.

For admission as a sophomore, junior or senior transfer, a student must have at least 30 transferable credit hours and a minimum 2.0 GPA on all previous college work.

All students transferring into UTA must thoroughly complete an application form. (Essay questions are optional.)

The application must include $25 for U.S. citizens or permanent residents with no international credentials, $50 for U.S. citizens or permanent residents with international credentials and $50 for international students.

UTA requests that all transfer students include their official transcripts from all colleges previously attended and send them directly to the UTA office of admissions.

“I believe that all students who are thinking of transferring into UTA from TCC should take as many of their basic courses at the junior college. It saves the student and their parents a lot of money,” Wells said.

With the enrollment of more than 20,000 students, UTA is the second largest of the 15 institutions in The University of Texas system.

The diversified student body represents 42 states, two U.S. territories and more than 100 countries.

The University’s academic units include the schools of architecture, education, nursing, social work and urban and public affairs in addition to the colleges of business administration, engineering, honors liberal arts and science.

The staff and faculty at UTA are willing to help students who are unfamiliar with their surroundings.

UTA offers a variety of assistance to current and transfers students.

Among its various services, the college provides a a science learning center, a writing center, community service learning, computer short courses, tutoring and a student success program.

“The classes are more challenging at UTA. I have learned more about my specialized degree. I feel that I am in more of a college and diverse environment. The students and professors are very helpful and were willing to help me out as I started my first semester at UTA,” he said.

Wells explained that transferring into the UTA taught him the importance of school spirit and pride.

UTA is a place where anyone can be involved and have a great place to call home, Wells said.

UTA has several opportunities for transfer students to get involved. UTA offers incoming students religious, political, recreational, social and special interest groups.

Students interested in transferring to the UTA should go online at www.uta.edu.
