Theaters offering comedy, ’30s classic

Texas Woman’s University will present The Women March 2-6.
Written by Clare Boothe Luce, the play portrays real women and real friendships.

"It was an obvious choice for TWU to do The Women," Dr. Mary Lou Hoyle, director and head of graduate studies in drama at TWU, said.

Set in the 1930s, the play contains rumors, gossip and catfights.

Mary Haines, played by Cris Galvan, hears rumors that her husband is having an affair with Crystal Allen, portrayed by Jenea Yerger. Mary decides not to give up without a fight and depends upon the support of her friends.

The 21-member cast consists entirely of women.

Performances are scheduled Friday through Tuesday 8 p.m. with a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee in the Redbud Theatre on the TWU campus.

Tickets are $5 for TWU students, children under 12 and seniors; $7 for TWU faculty and non-TWU students; and $10 for general admission. For reservations or additional information, call 940-898-2020.

Neil Simon's comedy, The Good Doctor, incorporates the legendary Anton Chekhov's tales of life at the brink of hopelessness in a rendition opening Feb. 23 at Pocket Sandwich Theatre in Dallas.

Chekhov, a Russian dramatist, explored his characters through an approach of scientific observation balanced with his passion of an artist, publicity on the production said.

The subtlety of interaction between his characters pioneered a new approach of “indirect action” that has influenced modern theater ever since, according to publicity about the production.

Ticket prices are Thursdays, $6, Fridays, $10, Saturdays $14, and Sundays $8.

Group rates are available as well. For reservations call 214-821-1860.

The Good Doctor, which is directed by Hal Finley will run through March 31 and stars Marie Del Marco, Angela Groh, Tony Martin, Dan Morrow, Stefany Northcutt, and Daniel R. States.
