TWU artist exhibiting human figure ceramics

The department of visual arts at Texas Woman’s University is currently displaying two concurrent shows through Friday, Nov. 17.
A Quiet Dance: The Figure in Clay and The Big Mess Inside My Head are ceramic exhibits that complement another concurrent show in Denton, Ceramics USA, a national exhibit at the University of North Texas.
A Quiet Dance: The Figure in Clay, showing in the East Gallery, emphasizes the primary theme of the human figure.
In The Big Mess Inside My Head, in the West Gallery, artist Colby Parsons-O’Keefe’s work represents his mind as a tangled variety of strange and visceral ceramic objects suspended in mid-air.
Artists from the show come from a variety of places all over the United States and represent a cross-section of ceramists working with modern figures, according to contact Corky Stuckenbruck, TWU gallery director.
“This is a wonderful exhibit that comprises two exhibits. It gives the art lover a chance to see beautiful ceramic work,” the director said.
The works themselves range from large, freestanding sculptural pieces to wall installations to figurative teapots.
The TWU exhibits are free and open to the public.
Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday 1-4 p.m.
The two gallery shows are held in the TWU Arts Building, located on the college’s campus at Texas and Oakland streets in Denton.
