Concerts featuring dance, vocal work
This month Texas Womans University is holding two dramatic arts concerts in the Margo Jones Performance Hall, located near the intersection of Oakland Avenue and Sawyer Street.
TWU student choreography will be showcased April 18-20 during the Dance Makers 2002 concert.
On Thursday, April 18, the start time is 4 p.m., and on Friday and Saturday, performances will begin at 8 p.m.
General admission is $8. Children, senior citizens, students, faculty and staff tickets are $5.
Also this month, TWU music students will present a concert called TWU Voices with Orchestra Saturday. April 27, at 8 p.m.
Admission to the concert is free.
Selections from Mozart, Verdi and Bellini will be performed. In addition to the operatic selection, the TWU concert choir will perform Salut Printemps by Claude Debussy.
The TWU Mixed Chamber Vocal Ensemble will also perform.
Guest conductor Bliss Johnston Virago of Treviso, Italy, will accompany Susan Davenport Stewart, TWU assistant professor of choral activities.
Virago has conducted and coached opera all over the would in such places as Vancouver, Australia, Brazil, London, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. She has also worked with such singers as Luciano Pavorotti and Marilyn Horne.
